State of the Union

Tonight many people will be tuning into the state of the union address by President Biden. Some will be tuning in to argue against everything that he says and some will tune in to praise everything he says. But, how many will be tuning in to analyze everything he says through the wisdom of scripture?

We often forget that we are here to please God with our lives in EVERY way. Not just the way that we want to serve Him but in EVERY way. Part of that desire to serve Him is by removing the wall that divides us as believers.
It often makes me wonder how we can claim Jesus as our savior and at the same time have such disdain in our heart for others. Paul wrote something about this in Romans 15:1-7 "We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." (ESV)
We should be united under the cause of Jesus Christ as believers in this country. There is not a political party that can save your soul for eternity. In fact, Christ would have us united under His policies and not those of government. He would have us united under His policies and not those of race or sex or nationality. What is right for a human? Did Jesus show partiality to any race or sex or nationality? The answer is no He chose all of humanity to receive His grace and mercy. Why is it so hard for us to follow His teaching on this?
Because we serve ourself and not Christ.
I hear many believers talking as if Christ would have been a member of one of our political parties or that Jesus was some race other than that of His birth, I can promise you Jesus was not a member of any political party and He was Jewish by human birth, He never chose the policies of the Pharisees, Sadducees, or Rome over that of God the Father. Jesus taught us that it is possible to serve God and not man, but that we must commit to that following of God and fight the desire to follow man.
I challenge you to cross over the aisle today and listen to your fellow man or woman so that you can begin to understand their situation. Maybe a little grace and empathy would make your heart turn more for God. Instead of dividing our nation lets try to unite our country under the love of Jesus and the sacrifice He made for all mankind. There is no time like the State of the Union to learn how to love. Jesus isn't in the speeches made tonight, He lives in you and you are His light to the lost world. Let's get together and show a better way!
